XPCOM Installation Procedure
XPCOM comes with an installation program XPINST.EXE this is
provided to simply the installation process.
Steps
1. Type XPINST and press enter.
2. Set directory paths.
3. Tab to the Install or Quit buttons
and press enter.
4. XPINST will create the necessary directories
and install the files.
5. After files have been loaded you may configure
XPCOM.
6. Enter your call sign.
7. Enter registration number, if you have one.
8. Enter your name and location. This information
is used in the macro commands and will be sent
over the air.
9. Select TNC type.
If using an AEA product select the Host Mode
option.
If using an MFJ1270,1274 or TNC2 type select
MFJ-1278. Remember not all modes are available
when operating and TNC2 type tnc with the 1278
option. This will be changed in a later
version of XPCOM.
10. Enter COMM port data.
If using a 286 or greater, opt for 9600 baud. On
XT type systems 4800 baud may be necessary.
11. If using two TNC's. Repeat steps 9 and 10.
NOTE : MOUSE OPERATION IS AVAILABLE if...
1. One TNC is being used on COM1 or COM3
and the mouse is on COM2 or COM4.
2. Two TNC's are being used and the mouse
is of the BUSS type, using IRQ 2 or 5.
This completes file installation.
Initial startup of XPCOM.
command line:
xpcom /c /i /v?
where ? :
/vl - Laptop Mode (Toshiba Type)
/vm - Monochrome Mode
/vc - CGA/EGA/VGA Color
/c - Configure program. Not necessary if
XPINST is used to setup XPCOM.
/i - Iniitialize TNC and dowmload parameters
The /i and /c commands are not necessary to start the program.
However, when returning to XPCOM from another program it is
advised to use /i to download the stored TNC parms.
To switch between the TNC's (if two are used), use the
'ESC' key or click in the window with the mouse.
